Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick has told the Yorkshire Post that he feels that his side's win over Stoke City was a statement of intent.

The Blades originally fell behind during the game at Bramall Lane after Jacob Brown put the visitors ahead in the 55th minute, before two substitutes turned the game on its head later on in the second half.

Both McGoldrick and Lys Mousset for the net in the space of three minutes to earn their side all three points as the Steel City side emerged victorious against the odds away from home.

Speaking after the game, the former was quick to make the following claim after helping his side to get the win:

"We have had a few wins at home, but not against big opponents. But for Stoke to go 1-0 up and for us to come back and get the win is a statement.

"Hopefully it is a moment for us to push on and carry on that confidence to the next run of games as we have some big games coming up between now and the next international break.

"We want to get as many points as possible and make Bramall Lane a fortress again."

McGoldrick is now off the mark for the season and will be hoping that he can break back into the starting eleven under Jokanovic moving forwards after encountering a few injury problems earlier in the campaign.

Meanwhile Sheffield United will be back in action tomorrow night as they play host to Millwall at Bramall Lane.

The Verdict

Getting a win in the fashion that they did against Stoke will certainly send a message out to anyone who has written the Blades off so far as likely promotion candidates.

They have admittedly started the season slowly but sometimes that happens naturally when a new manager comes through the door.

Now it appears that the players are getting used to Jokanovic's style of play and we should start seeing them pick up results on a more consistent basis moving forwards.

Beating the Potters late on was a good starting point and now they need to repeat the feat on home turf again tomorrow against Millwall.
