Barnsley have parted ways with head coach Markus Schopp this morning, following seven successive losses in the Championship, with The Tykes currently in 23rd place.

Barnsley are only denied a spot at the bottom of the pile because of Derby County's administration and subsequent 12 point deduction.

The Tykes managed to secure a play-off position during the 2020/21 campaign, with Valerien Ismael seeing instant success with his direct and high-pressing style of football.

However, Schopp had been trying to implement a different style of football at Oakwell, but it is fair to say that he was unable to get it right.

In recent weeks, performance levels have not been catastrophic, and Barnsley were quite unfortunate not to come away with a point against Bristol City at the weekend.

But, football is a results-based business and a run of seven straight defeats is nowhere near good enough.

Given the evident capabilities of the Barnsley squad, and the fact that they have a young squad that is full of potential, the now vacant managerial role at Oakwell is certainly one that could attract a lot of attention.

Here, we take a look at how Barnsley fans have reacted to the departure of Markus Schopp on Twitter...
