A number of Sheffield Wednesday fans have been reacting to the latest reports from The Telegraph that the players have rejected a request from the Owls’ hierarchy to be placed on furlough.

The report from The Telegraph indicates that the playing squad at Hillsborough were left shocked by the request from owner Dejphon Chansiri for them to be placed on furlough. While the report also went on to add that the squad have not been paid their wages on time for this month as of yet with the club suffering from serious cash flow issues.

That comes with previous reports having already revealed that the playing squad had only received a maximum of £7,000-a-week of their wages with the rest of their salaries to be paid at a later date. The Owls’ financial situation will not have been helped in the last few weeks by them having gone on to be relegated to the third tier.

It is not known how this will affect player recruitment at this stage, but it has already been reported that Sheffield Wednesday would only be allowed to sign free transfers and loans due to them having been placed under a transfer embargo.

The latest report from The Telegraph now reveals that Chansiri has attempted to relieve some of the financial pressures on the club by trying to get the players to agree to go on furlough. However, that has now been rejected by the squad.

Many Sheffield Wednesday fans have been bemoaning this latest update on the club’s situation with some growing tired of all that is going on behind the scenes.
