Portsmouth striker John Marquis had a disappointing evening in the 1-0 defeat to Coventry City last night, leaving many fans of the League One club frustrated.

Pompey traveled to St Andrew's to face fellow promotion chasers Coventry yesterday in fantastic form but it proved a difficult evening for Kenny Jackett's side.

Both sides had their chances but the Sky Blues found a decisive goal with just six minutes left of the game.

Substitute Matt Godden latched onto Callum O'Hare's ball over the top to poke it into the Pompey net.

Jackett handed Marquis the start over Ellis Harrison in a move that proved a mistake as the summer signing was ineffective for the South Coast side.

He was replaced by Harrison just after the hour mark, who looked a lot more lively and nearly found the net with his first touch.

Pompey signed Marquis from Doncaster Rovers in the summer for a fee believed to be in the region of £2 million but the 27-year-old has struggled to find his feet for the club, scoring just six times in 26 league appearances.
