The Police have confirmed that they have arrested seven Football League players in connection with allegations of spot-fixing in certain matches.

The National Crime Agency have confirmed that the players, based in the North West of England, are between the ages of 18 and 30.

They said: "The investigation began following receipt of material from the Sun on Sunday. It remains ongoing and we cannot provide further detail at this stage."

The Football League themselves have also responded to the latest developments. A spokesman said: "The Football League has been made aware that a number of arrests have been made in relation to an ongoing police investigation. We will provide our full co-operation to the relevant authorities."
