It is Frank Lampard's first pre-season as a manager, but anyone who thinks he might be naïve as to what is expected would surely be mistaken.

Having Uncle Harry to lean on will be a big boost, plus Frank has been around long enough to understand what is needed in the summer. Is he Championship-aware though? He's played all of his career at the highest level and now he's hoping to succeed lower than he ever played.

He's also been on World Cup duty as a pundit, potentially missing out on vital days of bargaining, making offers and watching videos. It might not be detrimental at all, but should they get off to a bad start these things will be highlighted.

Therefore it is vital that Derby get a couple of deals over the line, sooner rather than later. Selling Matej Vydra will free up some funds, but Andreas Weinmann's move to Bristol City boosted the coffers to the tune of £2m.

Here are three deals we think Derby need to conclude, quickly.

Jack Marriott is a goal machine and although the Vydra situation is holding things up, they need to be decisive.

Bristol City are keen too which could spell bad news any day now. Marriott will be a success in the Championship and if Derby miss out, they'll regret it later.

Lampard hasn't made his mind up about a loan move for Palmer, but with such little risk it is hard to understand why.

Palmer is an exciting young player with loads to offer and he'd certainly bring another dimension to the Derby midfield. What is there to think about?

With one bid already turned down, it seems only a matter of time before the Rams go back with an improved offer.

They must not wait too long though, Leeds are interested as are a host of other clubs. Jozefzoon, is proven at Championship level and would be a big signing for any promotion-chasing outfit.
