It’s been a tough start to life in the Championship for Sunderland with them realising just how tough it is to adapt after dropping down from the Premier League.
The Black Cats finally ended up in the second tier for the start of this season and many were wondering just whether it would be a blessing in disguise in allowing them to reset.
However, they have not really managed to do that so far and it makes you wonder whether or not they should have been a little bit more inventive with some of their summer signings.
Indeed, they went down the route of signing players that perhaps do not have much to prove in the Championship and it seems that a lack of hunger could still be keeping them back.
For sure, though the likes of Lewis Grabban and James Vaughan can produce at this level, they don’t really look as though they are going to fire the Black Cats towards the top six – compared to how a younger player would.
We think, then, that they should have tried to sign Jack Marriott in the summer with him proving to be a real force in League One with Peterborough.
Indeed, the young striker has nine goals from 13 games in all competitions this season and that kind of record is something that the Black Cats could do with right now.
They need to bring in fresh legs and players with points to prove, and Marriott should have been one.
