With Derby boss Gary Rowett set for his first pre-season in charge at Pride Park, fans of the club will be expecting big changes to the current squad, and with no current first team player out-of-contract this summer, Rowett will be looking to cash out on unwanted talent.

A player likely to face the cut is forward Nick Blackman, who has spent the majority of the season on the sidelines, following a serious knee injury.

Blackman first joined the Rams in January 2016, for a reported fee of over £3 million from fellow Championship side Reading.

Since joining he has failed to hit the ground running only scoring one goal in 21 appearances, with the goal being a penalty, and has been noted 'likely to leave' by the Derby telegraph.

With that in mind, what would be the best decision for Blackman to make for next season?

The 27-year-old still has two year left on his contract at Pride Park, so the obvious option would be to stay and fight for his place at Derby now he is back fully fit.

Although, with Rowett openly admitting his need for a new striker, as well as 92% of Derby fans who voted in a poll wanting to sell Blackman, a future for the forward at Pride Park is looking very unlikely.

On the other hand, rumours have spread around the mill that Reading are interested in re-signing Blackman after hearing Derby willing to let him go, which could be an option for Blackman.

With Reading's current striker Yann Kermorgant retiring at the end of the season, Royals boss Jaap Stam will be looking for a striker to fill his boots, and as Reading are already familiar with Blackman's qualities he can be a likely candidate.

The only thing holding him back may be if Reading defeat Huddersfield in the Championship playoff final, and Reading become a Premiership team, as the Royals may start looking for someone of better quality and that has Premiership experience.

Another option could be to return to former club Sheffield United or try and get a move to another newly promoted team of either Bolton or Millwall, as any of these three teams would highly benefit from a forward of Blackman's quality and with Derby looking to sell the striker, may be able to fund a move for him.
