Sheffield United have reportedly joined Derby County and Fulham in the race to sign Everton defender Mason Holgate.

The 22-year old has been frozen out at Goodison Park having failed to make a league start since September for Marco Silva's men, who has recently stated that the defender can depart the club on loan in January.

The Blades currently sit 5th in the Sky Bet Championship table and will need some reinforcements if they are to cement their position at the top end of the table.

Here, we discuss whether Holgate would be a good signing for Chris Wilder's men...

George Harbey

Holgate could be a fantastic signing for United.

He already has vast experience having played over 48 times for Everton since arriving from Barnsley in 2015.

Due to the form of Egan, O'Connell and Basham, it'd be hard to see break him into the team, but with the latter aging, he could provide some real competition.

Gary Hutchinson

Seriously? It’s a no from me.

Their back three is as solid as a brick wall and unless there’s a big change of plan, he won’t get games.

He might play at right back, but I’m not sure wilder trusts the youth, look at ben Woodburn.

Jacob Potter

This would be a smart bit of business.

Holgate has a huge amount of potential and Chris Wilder needs better depth in defensive areas this season.

Holgate would be an excellent addition to the Blades squad and could play a vital role in their promotion bid.
