Serie A outfit join Europe-wide chase for Aston Villa ace

Serie A outfit Sampdoria have joined the Europe-wide chase for highly-rated Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi, according to CalcioMercato (via The Birmingham Mail).

The 23-year-old earned a move to Villa Park back in 2015 after impressing at French side Nice, although he couldn’t help keep the Villans in the Premier League in his first campaign at the club, earning just ten league appearances as they went down with a meek 17 points from their 38 matches.

And he didn’t fare much better last time out either with just 26 starts in the Championship, and speculation has been building in recent times about his future at the Midlands club, with European heavyweights such as Napoli, Atletico Madrid and Marseille reportedly interested in the left-back.

And now it is believed that Italian side Sampdoria are also in pursuit of Amavi, as they themselves look to bolster their defensive options after only mustering a tenth place finish in Serie A last season.

The calibre of clubs interested in the 23-year-old underlines how highly he is rated around the continent, and at just 23 years of age, it does appear that he has a very bright future in the game.

But whether that is at Steve Bruce’s Villa remains to be seen, and with another top European club entering the race, it is becoming increasingly likely that Amavi will leave Villa Park this summer.
