Middlesbrough have recently completed a deal to sign midfielder Duncan Watmore on a short-term contract.

Watmore had previously been a free-agent since leaving Sunderland at the end of the 2019/20 season, after struggling for regular game time with the Black Cats.

The winger has had his fair share of injury problems over the years, but will be keen to put that behind him and make a good impression with Neil Warnock's side.

Boro are currently sat seventh in the Championship table after a strong start to this year's campaign, and will be keen to pick up points when they return to action against Norwich City this weekend.

Football League World's Middlesbrough fan Hallam Wheatley reacted to the news of Watmore's arrival, and praised Neil Warnock's impact for getting the deal done, and trusted his judgement with the deal.

"Having been released from Sunderland at the end of last season, under normal circumstances, most Middlesbrough fans would look at his injury record and think we’re wasting our time.

"But this isn’t normal circumstances, because of Neil Warnock.  With Warnock’s men flying high, well above expectations, the man can do no wrong, and the same appears to be true here.

"The reason for the optimism around this signing, has to be in Warnock’s comments, following a disappointing end to the transfer window. Warnock admitted that he’d need to explore the free-agent market, but that he would only sign players who he thought would be good enough for the club."

"To this end, Watmore’s arrival at the club, which was first touted when he began training with the club earlier in November, will have the full backing of Warnock, and in turn, the full backing of the fans."

The Middlesbrough supporter went on to label Watmore as a 'sensible addition' for Boro, and expects the short-term deal to be extended beyond January, but only if he can prove his fitness.

"Trying to look past Watmore’s injury record, what we see is a winger who loves to run at defenders. This is what the club are lacking at the moment, so any addition is a welcomed one."

"With a very congested fixture list, having Watmore on hand till January seems like a very sensible addition. If he impresses and stays fit, I have no doubt that will be extended, but with the packed winter schedule, having a winger willing to run at defenders will only add an extra dimension to Middlesbrough’s play.

"Having looked extremely solid for the first part of the season, we are clearly lacking in creativity and goals. I hope Watmore proves to be a catalyst for Middlesbrough to go from the championship dark horses, to serious contenders."
