After a summer of upheaval, Derby County came into the 2019/20 campaign as a bit of an unknown quantity.

With Frank Lampard leaving and Mason Mount, Harry Wilson and Fikayo Tomori all returning from whence they came, Philip Cocu had the unenviable task of rebuilding a side capable of winning promotion.

The early signs were very good on Monday night, however, as they kicked their campaign off with a 2-1 win away to Huddersfield Town.

It was Tom Lawrence who stepped up impressively, firing in both goals for the Rams. The first, pouncing on a defensive mix-up in the Huddersfield defence, but the second was sublime.

Twisting and turning into space on the edge of the Terriers' penalty area, the Welsham lifted an inch-perfect shot into the far corner to make it 2-0.

Karlan Grant pulled a goal back for the home side from the spot but it was to be Derby's day.

And after Lawrence reacted to his second goal on Twitter the fans were quick to heap praise on him...
