Colchester United's players created history for the Essex club last night, as the League Two side defeated Crawley 3-1 to reach the last eight of the Carabao Cup.

Goals from Luke Norris and Luke Gambin, as well as an own goal by Crawley's Michael Luyambula ensured the U's would progress to the next round, where the fans and players alike will hope that their run will be rewarded with a glamour away tie to a Premier League giant.

Colchester United last reached the quarter finals of the League Cup in 1974, which is a period spanning 45 years.

The U's have defied the odds to reach this stage of the tournament, with notable giant killing upsets against Premier League sides Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur on penalties being the standout moments.
