Speaking to LUTV, Leeds United’s Director of Football, Victor Orta, has promised Thomas Christiansen he will be able to bring players to Elland Road this summer, but will be working within a budget.
Christiansen addressed the media for the first time since his appointment as Leeds’ head-coach, discussing his plans for next season, alongside Orta and Angus Kinnear – the club’s Managing Director.
Orta is expected to play a significant role in player recruitment this summer, similar to the role he played at Middlesbrough before he arrived at Elland Road.
Leeds surprised many by picking ex-APOEL boss, Christiansen, as Garry Monk’s successor, and when asked if Leeds would be backing the 44-year old this summer and giving him new players, Orta replied: “Yes, but only in accordance to our budget.
“I prefer the man than the name, that is a similar situation how he (Christiansen) has arrived.
“(We want) a player that wants to play for Leeds, not only for money, not only to play in England.”
Christiansen will be tasked with taking Leeds to the next level in the Sky Bet Championship, with hope that he can build on the foundations Monk left behind at Elland Road.
Monk led Leeds to seventh in the Championship last year, with only a late season collapse denying the Whites a place in the play-offs.
Leeds have already made their first signing of the summer, with Hadi Sacko, who spent the 2016/17 campaign on-loan at Elland Road, signing permanently from Sporting Lisbon.
