Leeds United goalkeeper Kiko Casilla has been granted an extension on his response to the FA’s charge for alleged racism during the Charlton Athletic game.

The incident in question came during Leeds’ 1-0 defeat against Charlton Athletic at the Valley back in September. It is not confirmed as to what Casilla actually said in the altercation but it was directed at Charlton forward Jonathan Leko and noticed by his teammates too.

One player was the game’s only goalscorer, Macauley Bonne, who, when asked if Leeds were a ‘fair side’ after the game, had this to say to the Evening Standard: “There was one thing that happened today that I will not mention until it comes out later.”

Since then, the Spanish goalkeeper has been charged by the FA over an alleged breach of Rule E3, with the club releasing a statement saying they acknowledge the charge but stand by their player who “strenuously denies the allegation and has proactively worked with the FA during their investigation to date.”

Casilla remains available for selection during this on-going investigation and has recently helped Leeds to a current four-game unbeaten run, with the FA originally expecting a response to the charge from Casilla today. The ‘keeper has now been granted an extension until the end of November to respond, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The club and player are cooperating with the FA in this investigation but Leeds United managing director Angus Kinnear has outlined his concern over the lack of evidence needed for a charge in such a serious case, he wrote in his programme notes for the weekend’s game: “As a club we fully support such a serious allegation being subject to full investigation and a disciplinary process. Our only concern is that the standard of proof for an FA hearing is not 'beyond all reasonable doubt' but 'on the balance of probability.' We believe that in cases of this seriousness the higher standard of proof is more appropriate. This is not because we fear a sporting sanction, but because a man's reputation is at stake."

With there seemingly being a bit of an impasse between the FA and Leeds in the search for fresh evidence either prove or debunk the incident in question, we take a look at how fans have responded on Twitter to the update that an extension has been granted...
