West Ham United are reportedly keen on Burnley defender Charlie Taylor.

Journalist Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Taylor is one of the options the Hammers are considering as they look to strengthen the left side of defence.

But would he be a good signing? And should the Championship club cash in?

We quizzed our FLW writers for their thoughts...

During his time with Burnley, Charlie Taylor has proven that he can be a solid option on that left flank.

There are probably more attractive options out there for West Ham but if you’re looking for a budget option who knows what it takes in the top level, the Burnley defender could be that man.

At 28-years-old, he still has plenty to offer too. With nearly 250 games for both Leeds and the Clarets, the Hammers also know they’d be getting a player with plenty of top flight and top level knowledge.

Taylor then could be a real bargain buy for West Ham.

This potential addition should enable Ben Johnson to remain out on the right-hand side, providing the full-back with more certainty in his possible quest to stay on that side after playing more regularly there than on the left.

The Hammers may already have Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku - but the latter may not be at the London Stadium beyond the summer amid previous links to elsewhere and with that - may benefit from having another option on the left.

Having a decent amount of Premier League experience under his belt, Taylor could certainly be a good addition and as they have already shown this summer, Burnley aren't scared to cash in some of their prized assets.

With Ian Maatsen about to come in at Turf Moor too, maybe it's the right time for the Hammers to move for the ex-Leeds United man.

At 28, he's nearing the peak of his career so this seems like the right move at the right time for David Moyes' side.

Considering Ian Maatsen is arriving at Turf Moor on loan from Chelsea in the near future, I'd suggest that Taylor's place in the starting 11 is up for grabs.

Chelsea aren't sending the Dutchman to Lancashire to warm the bench, so I'd hazard a guess that come the start of the 2022-23 Championship campaign, Taylor will be playing second fiddle to Maatsen.

He would also be no doubt playing backup to Aaron Cresswell as well at West Ham, but because of their involvement in the UEFA Conference League, the Hammers need some depth and they don't currently have that at left-back.

Due to their European qualification, Taylor would get some decent minutes should David Moyes pick him up, and therefore it would be a good move for him.

Burnley cashing in on him would mean they lack depth on the left and they'd need a replacement, but if they could get a decent seven-figure fee for Taylor, then it may be worth letting him depart.
