A 1-0 win over Charlton Athletic on Sunday was enough to take Preston North End to the top of the Championship table, with Alex Neil's side claiming top spot on goal-difference from Leeds United.

Neil though is not resting on his laurels though with Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher a loan target, according to the print edition of The Sun on Sunday (November 3, page 61).

So would Kelleher be a good addition to the Lilywhites' squad? Is he needed?

We discuss........

Louie Chandler

"I'm a bit sceptical of this one.

"Rudd is more than a solid option at number one and I can understand the attraction of bringing in Kelleher as a number two.

"But will Liverpool want him to be playing back-up? I don't think so. And if he is being brought in as a replacement for Rudd I would be worried from a Preston perspective.

"He has next to no first-team experience and when they are in such a promising position in the league it would be foolish to take such a big gamble in my opinion."

Chris Thorpe

"I think this would be a wise move from Alex Neil, as the young Liverpool keeper will help to provide some much needed competition between the sticks for Declan Rudd.

"I do think this would simply be a matter of bringing in cover for injuries as Rudd has been in good form for the Lilywhites this term ,and it would make no sense if they were to drop him from the starting XI.

"Kelleher will provide Preston with a young goalkeeper who is still learning the ropes at the top level, whilst they will also be getting a keeper who is good with the ball at his feet, thus allowing Preston to play out from the back more effectively.

"It will be interesting to see if Liverpool do indeed loan him out, as there is now increased competition for places at Anfield due to Allison's return from injury and the presence of second choice keeper Adrian."

Ned Holmes

"This is an interesting one and seems like a little bit of a risk.

"Declan Rudd has made a good start to the season but his current contract at the club is set to expire in the summer and there have been rumours about clubs swooping for him in January.

"Bringing Kelleher in would provide some extra cover for that eventuality, however, the x-year-old is relatively untested, so to roll the dice on him in a season Preston look well set for a promotion push in seems strange.

"If they're looking for some cover or a replacement for Rudd would they not be better served going for someone with more experience? I think so."
