Leeds United crashed out of the EFL Cup tonight with their heads held high, despite losing 2-0 against Liverpool.

Leeds not only held their own but actually edged the play for most of the match but a late double whammy of goals provided a sucker punch for the Championship outfit ultimately.

Divock Origi opened the scoring after 76 minutes as he slid in to turn Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross past Marco Silvestri and into the net.

The Reds' lead was doubled just five minutes later as 17-year-old prodigy Ben Woodburn slammed home at the back post to break Michael Owen's record and become Liverpool's youngest ever goalscorer.

Leeds defended really well for the majority of the game, though, and were unlucky not to go ahead when Kemar Roofe's curled effort came back off the inside of the post.

Garry Monk will be proud of his team's efforts and confident that they can take that level of performance into the Championship.
