Sheffield Wednesday supporters would have been hoping to build on last season's Play-Off final finish and, while it's not been easy, they're not far off and are so far set to end the campaign in the top six again.

Manager Carlos Carvalhal hasn't actually altered the squad that much either, compared to the likes of Leeds United and Reading, who have bought quality in abundance to further their own promotion hopes.

So, with a similar team, and competition for places fierce in the side, it's clear as to why they look set to finish in the Play-Offs.

The Owls currently sit on 49 points, 25 short of their complete tally at the end of last season and they still have seventeen matches to play. Still, they have Norwich City, Derby County and Barnsley knocking on the door, meaning there is oh so much still to play for this term.

Wednesday have plenty of strength in their squad and Carvalhal would have been pleased to keep hold of his better players in January, and adding one or two faces as well.

With that in mind, here are the THREE Sheffield Wednesday's best players this season so far.....

Fernando Forestieri

Although the lethal attacker probably hasn't reached the heights of last season, the Italian has still shown his quality and easily could be named as the club's best player this season.

Fernando Forestieri has made 25 appearances for the Owls with eight goals and four assists to his tally this campaign.

The 27-year-old is the creative centre of Carlos Carvalhal's team, but has been chipping in with the goals to lift them up the table and supporters will be glad he didn't leave in the summer, despite reportedly handing in a transfer request.

Forestieri will be hoping to stay fit until the end of May when he may be walking onto the prestigious pitch of Wembley in the Play-Off final.

Keiren Westwood

The Irishman is a fan favourite up at Hillsborough and it's clear as to why. He's a model professional and one of the best goalkeepers in the Championship.

Westwood joined Sheffield Wednesday in the summer of 2014 on a free transfer after being released by Sunderland and he's been an ever-present in the Owls' squad since.

The 32-year-old has made 43 clean sheets in just over 100 matches for the Yorkshire club, though he's been even more impressive this season.

Keiren Westwood has conceded the least number of goals out of the four teams who currently make up the Play-Offs, and although he may have a stronger defence in front of him, the 'keeper deserves most of the praise.

Ross Wallace

In a rather frustrating month of results for Sheffield Wednesday, midfielder Ross Wallace was a bright spark in a dismal January for the Owls where they picked up just four points from a possible twelve and endured a 3-0 defeat to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.

The Scotsman has made 29 appearances for Carvalhal's side this season, having netted on three occasions and provided four assists.

Wallace may be on the wrong side of 30, but he offers pace and can easily break through a lot of defences in the Championship, showing his quality week in, week out.

Probably not their best player of the season but definitely in the top three.

Sheffield Wednesday fans, do you agree? As of performances so far, who should win Player of the Season at Hillsborough? Is there anyone I've missed out?
