Derby County supporters will be fearing a summer of uncertainty over the futures of key figures at the club.

It comes after the Rams fell to an agonising 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa at Wembley in the Championship play-off final on Monday.

There has already been speculation linking Frank Lampard with a move away from the club, with his former side, Chelsea reportedly registering their interest in his services.

But one thing is for certain though, with the loanees at Derby returning to their parent clubs over the summer.

The likes of Mason Mount, Harry Wilson and Fikayo Tomori have all been hugely impressive in their time with the club.

Many supporters will have thought that it would be the last time they would see the trio in a Derby shirt, but they will be overjoyed with one man’s latest comments.

In an interview with BBC East Midlands Sport, Tomori admitted that he would consider a return to Derby on loan next season to help aid their promotion bid.

There’s no doubting at all that Derby looked considerably better in defence with Tomori at the heart of it when he featured.

The youngster formed an impressive partnership with Richard Keogh, and the pair were key to the success of the Derby team that finished inside the top six this season.

If Frank Lampard is to remain with the Rams ahead of next year’s campaign, then there’s no doubt in saying that he should be trying to sign Tomori on loan again next season.

He made 44 league appearances in total and picked up Derby’s Supporters Player of the Year award for his performances in this year’s campaign.

You have to feel that if Derby can manage to sign him up over the summer, then it would be a huge boost to everyone associated with the club, as Tomori could certainly be playing at a higher level than the Championship.

A player that is destined for bigger and better things, whose latest comments will be a huge boost to Derby supporters, who will still be recovering from yet another Wembley heartbreak.

If they can sign Tomori for another season on loan, then it would certainly give Derby a real chance of going one step further in winning promotion back to the Premier League next season.
