Losing key player Murray Wallace to Millwall and Neal Bishop, is evidence Scunthorpe United may struggle to replicate last season's achievement of a League One play off place.

Finishing fifth in League One last season was a good season for the Iron.

However, losing Murray Wallace to Millwall was a major blow, and the defender will be hard to replace.

He was a mainstay in the starting line-up, and made 45 appearances across the season.

Murray Wallace was a crucial player for the Iron, Nick Daws must ensure he finds a suitable replacement for the 6ft 2 Scotsman before the new season begins.

The Lincolnshire club can't afford to rest of their laurels if they are to replicate last season's achievements.

Tom Hopper and Sam Mantom are two others among a crop of players to have left Scunthorpe United this Summer, which looks like it will see a major transition for the men for Glanford Park.

Replacing lots of regular starters is a tough ask for a new, and relatively untested manager in Nick Daws, although he did achieve a strong end to last season as caretaker manager.

Whether he can carry over the strong end to last season into the beginning of this season, is questionable.

With a play-off semi final defeat still looming over the club and a major period of transition in the playing squad, Scunthorpe United may well have a long season ahead of them.

However, if Nick Daws makes some smart additions and the squad gel together, it might be too early to write them off as challengers just yet.
