Last night, Scunthorpe United signed experienced striker Jamie Ward following his release from Nottingham Forest in the summer.

Ward has been on the books of Aston Villa, Stockport County, Torquay United, Chesterfield, Sheffield United, Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Burton Albion, Cardiff City and Charlton Athletic.

Ward has also been capped 35 times for the Northern Ireland national team, scoring four goals along the way.

The striker is a good signing for Scunthorpe on paper, having netted goals in the Championship however has struggled to settle since joining Nottingham Forest back in 2015, finding himself out on loan and struggling to break into the first-team with the Championship side.

Ward, who can also operate on the wing, has now dropped down two levels to try and help Scunthorpe climb the table, now sat in 23rd place and just above the relegation zone.

Speaking to Scunthorpe's website after the move was announced, Ward said “Obviously, I’m delighted to join the club. I need to start playing football again, first and foremost. I’ve joined a good club, I know a few of the lads and they’ve spoke highly of the club."

Ward has been handed the number 13 shirt for the Iron and is in contention for their Saturday home encounter with Bradford City.
