This summer transfer window has been difficult and frustrating in equal measures for Scunthorpe United fans.

After achieving a play-off spot last season, Scunthorpe United would have been hoping to go one better and win promotion next term.

However, the Iron have lost a number of key players and not replaced all of them.

Goalkeeper Luke Daniels and midfielder Stephen Dawson are the two main departures this summer.

As well as losing players, Scunthorpe have struggled to land some of their targets.

After missing out on top target Matt Crooks, who joined Northampton Town, Scunthorpe United recently lost out in the race to sign Ivan Toney as well.

Toney was on loan at Glanford Park last season and impressed but he has joined Wigan Athletic instead.

As a result, Graham Alexander will have to pursue other avenues in the transfer market to bring in his new striker.

With Paddy Madden, Kevin Van Veen and Tom Hopper on their books, Scunthorpe are not short in attack but could do with one more face through the door.

This could come in the form of Everton youngster Bassala Sambou.

Sambou has been impressive for Everton's youth team since joining the club from Coventry City last summer.

However, the German-born striker needs to prove his worth during a loan spell.

With pace and power to his game, Sambou needs to show Everton that he can perform in a competitive environment and make the step up to senior football.

Playing in front of big crowds and against experienced professionals will be perfect for the 19-year-old's development.

In the short term, Scunthorpe can benefit from the talented teenager's eye for goal during a loan spell.
