Scunthorpe United have confirmed the appointment of Keith Hill as their new boss, with the experienced manager tasked with saving the Iron from the drop out of the Football League this season.

United have had a pretty torrid time of things so far this year, with a pretty underwhelming summer transfer window leading to an opening few months of the campaign that have left them staring up at the rest of the EFL and down at the National League.

A win against Crawley Town towards the end of October might have given them some hope that the turnaround was finally on but, of course, they ended up losing to Colchester United last weekend and that proved to be the final nail in the coffin for former manager Neil Cox.

Ex-Rochdale gaffer Hill is in charge, then, and he has one mission and one mission alone this season - save Scunny from the bottom two:

The Verdict

Hill has bags of experience at this level and knows how to work on a tight budget so Scunthorpe fans will just hope that is enough to get them away from the bottom two.

It's been an awful start to the campaign but they are not adrift just yet and if this can get them on a bit of a run, they could soon climb out of trouble.
