The race to secure Abel Hernandez’s signature this summer is likely to be a scramble, with a number of clubs looking to secure a deal for the departing Hull City striker.

Confirmation came over the weekend that Hernandez would be leaving the KCOM Stadium this summer, with the 27-year-old taking to Twitter to confirm his Hull departure.

According to the Birmingham Mail, there is now set to be an almighty scramble to secure Hernandez’s service ahead of next season, with a number of Sky Bet Championship clubs in the hunt.

Aston Villa and Birmingham City are both said to be interested, whilst Leeds United are desperately working to secure the Uruguayan’s service ahead of the new season.

There is also set to be Premier League interest, with Newcastle United linked with a move for Hernandez, who has spent the last four years in English football.

The 27-year-old has scored 39 goals for Hull during that time, with the bulk of those coming in the Championship.

Hernandez scored over 20 goals during the 2015/16 campaign, as Hull secured promotion.

Last season, the striker’s year was hit by a serious injury, but he still managed to score eight goals in 10 appearances for the Tigers.

The Verdict

Hernandez confirming his Hull exit over the weekend has really sparked some speculation.

Leeds are seemingly really keen to get a deal over the line, but the Uruguayan is going to have a number of serious offers from their Championship rivals, and Newcastle, who offer a direct route back to the Premier League.

Only time will tell where Hernandez ends up, but it is sure to be a fierce race.
