More than half of Premier League clubs are understood to have had scouts at Barnsley's game with Reading on Friday amid reported interest in Daryl Dike and Michael Olise.

The two play-off hopefuls played out a 1-1 draw at Oakwell ahead of the weekend, with Alex Mowatt's 61st-minute penalty cancelling out Ovie Ejaria's first-half goal.

According to journalist Jonathan Shrager, more than half of Premier League clubs had a scout at the game between Reading and the Tykes.

Recent reports have suggested that Dike, the 20-year-old American striker on loan at Barnsley from Orlando City, has turned heads in the top flight – with Chelsea, Everton, Leeds United, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Wolves, and West Ham United all touted with an interest.

He's not the only one likely to be in demand ahead of the summer window either with Olise drawing links to the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Leeds, and Tottenham – while European clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig have also been named as potential suitors.

The Verdict

Dike and Olise are two of the hottest young prospects in the Championship heading toward the summer, so it's no surprise that there was a large Premier League presence when their two sides met on Good Friday.

It would be a surprise if either player remained at their current club next season – even if one of Reading or the Tykes were to get promoted to the Premier League.

Both look set to play key roles as the two Championship clubs push to do just that in the final stages of 2020/21.
