Hearts are the latest club to take an interest in former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sean Clare, according to the print edition of The Times via the BBC Sport Scottish Gossip page.

Clare is available for a compensation fee after choosing to ignore Sheffield Wednesday's new offer of a contract.

The 21-year-old has been in talks with Hearts over a possible switch to the Scottish Premiership and he still has a lot of interest from England too.

Aston Villa have been long-term admirers of the young midfielder, although Financial Fair Play regulations might hamper their chances of landing him.

Premier League duo Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keen and they will rival Championship side Leeds United for the London-born midfield man.

But Hearts are hoping to win the race for the former Bury, Accrington Stanley and Gillingham loan man.

Clare has played five senior games for the Owls and scored his first goal in victory over Aston Villa back in February.

The Verdict

Clare needs to make a sensible career move.

He has clearly left Sheffield Wednesday to pursue more first-team options and that is something he is likely to get at Hearts.

At Leeds, he will probably start as a substitute and he is not quite ready for Premier League football so perhaps Hearts is his best option as things stand.
