Leeds United have finally completed a deal for Motherwell youngster Stuart McKinstry after tracking the midfielder for months.

The Whites interest in the 16-year-old has been known for a while now, with reports in February revealing that a deal that could be worth up to £400,000 had been agreed between the clubs.

McKinstry has been training with Leeds this summer as all parties waited for the deal to finally get signed off.

And, that day has come, with the Scottish Premiership side confirming on their official site this afternoon that they had sold the teenager to Leeds, with chief executive Alan Burrows stating the player wanted to go to Elland Road.

"We were also understanding of the opportunity this was for Stuart and importantly, his desire to move there.

"The deal was actually agreed with Leeds back in the spring and Stuart has been down there with his new club since this summer, but it has taken a significant amount of time to complete and the paperwork and receive the necessary clearance, which was finally concluded last week."

The Verdict

Most knew this deal was going to happen and the fact McKinstry has been with his new club for the past few months prove this was just a formality.

Nevertheless, it will be a relief for the player and the two clubs to finally have this signed off and it's a great move for the youngster.

He will now look to continue to impress in England and he will hope to impress the coaches at Thorp Arch as he looks to progress through the ranks.
