With the arrival of Daniel Farke came a wave of optimism at Norwich City that they could bounce back to the Premier League after a recent relegation.

Fans had seen how big an impact the likes of David Wagner had at Huddersfield Town, having held the same position as Farke at Borussia Dortmund.

His summer acquisitions teased an exciting season as well, bringing in the likes of Marcel Franke, Onel Hernandez, Marco Stieppermann and Dennis Srbeny, each for at least £1million.

A proven Championship defender was also ready to join their ranks.

This is FLW Rewind where we take a look back at a big decision made by a club, analyse the initial reaction and document what happened next.

This time it is the turn of Grant Hanley.

Having just won promotion to the Premier League with Newcastle United, the Carrow Road faithful were hopeful that he could recreate that feet with their club:

He was a big success in his first season at the club.

Playing 32 matches, he became one of Farke's most reliable players becoming a consistent rock-like presence at the back. But a 13th place finish for the club was very underwhelming.

With 21 matches now played in the current campaign, Norwich appear to be on their way to a much more successful season.

They sit top of the Championship table, one point ahead of second-placed Leeds United and six ahead of third-placed Sheffield United, giving them a very real chance of winning promotion.

Signings from previous summer such as Stiepermann and Hernandez have stepped up, being helped by summer arrivals such as the silky Emiliano Buendia and the clinical Teemu Pukki.

But, there has been no need for Hanley. Having started the first six matches of the season, an injury curtailed his run in the squad. Since then, however, the club began their ascent to the top, winning 12 of the 15 matches played since his absence.

It will be interesting to see whether Farke medals with his squad upon the defenders return or not.
