Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has suggested that he expects Leeds United loanee Ryan Edmondson to sign a new deal with the Whites this summer after recently arriving on loan with the Dons last month.

The young forward was recently sent out on loan to the Scottish Premiership outfit in a bid to provide the 19-year-old with some much needed regular game time, with the striker's route to first team appearances at Elland Road currently blocked by the likes of Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts at present.

Edmondson has found opportunities limited at the Yorkshire club since arriving from York City back in 2017 and will no doubt be keen to make an impression on Marcelo Bielsa during his stint at the Pittodrie Stadium.

As reported by Leeds Live, McInnes was quick to comment on Edmondson's future at Elland Road, with the Scotsman stating the following about the teenager:

“He is highly thought of at Leeds and will be signing a new contract there in the next few weeks.

“Ryan is young, he is raw at times, but he has potential and gives us something different.”

It has been widely thought that Edmondson has been brought in as a ready made replacement for Aberdeen's Sam Cosgrove, with the striker strongly linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks.

The Verdict

This will certainly be seen as great news for Edmondson, with the youngster having been shown a great show of faith by the Leeds United hierarchy, with a new contract seemingly in the offing.

After making just two first team appearances for the Whites so far, the striker will be seeking to find the net on a consistent basis at a decent level under stewardship of McInnes at Aberdeen this season.

The move to Scotland will certainly be viewed as the best next step for all parties involved, with the 19-year-old being highly unlikely to feature for Leeds in the Premier League next season.

After what seemed to be a slightly bleak future for the forward at Elland Road in recent times, things are finally looking up for a player who has plenty of potential to make it at the top level in years to come.
