Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton is being targeted by Scottish giants Rangers for a summer move, with the experienced right back set to be out of contract at the end of the month.

According to a report in the Birmingham Mail, Rangers are a possible destination for Hutton, who has a decision to make on what will probably be one of his last contracts in the game, with the former Spurs man now well into his thirties.

Hutton was in and out of the Villa team last season but was a crucial member of Steve Bruce's squad as they just lost out in the playoff final to Fulham, denying the club a return to the top flight after two years down in the Championship.

Indeed, Hutton played for Rangers some ten years back, and the chance to move back and join what could be something of a revolution under new manager Steven Gerrard could well be tempting for the defender.

Gerrard is hoping to add a weatlh of experience and new players to his squad and will see someone like Hutton as the ideal sort of signing. Villa on the otherhand need to trim their squad with FFP sanctions and tax bills hanging over the club, and moving Hutton on could well be a hefty chunk off the wage bill.

Villa fans, what do you think? Time for Hutton to go? Let us know!
