AFC Bournemouth boss Scott Parker has refused to be drawn on whether the club are looking to sign a new goalkeeper during the upcoming January transfer window or not, as he gave his thoughts during an interview with the Bournemouth Echo.

The Cherries previously looked all set to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman on loan last summer until the move was scrapped by the Magpies after their first choice shot stoppers sustained setbacks over their fitness.

Since then Derby County's Kelle Roos has also been linked with a move to the Vitality Stadium, with it being suggested in some quarters that Parker would like there to be more competition for his undisputed number one, Mark Travers.

Speaking on the prospect of potentially signing a new keeper during the winter window, the Bournemouth boss remained coy:

"I think like anything in January, when January comes, we have to see where we are.

"And I'm not going to sit here and speculate, I realise how quick and how things change rapidly.

"If situations change, then we need to be ready to act on wherever that is.

"So this isn't just about a keeper. We could say this in just about every position in the team."

Travers has been in superb form this season and has played his part in a total of 22 Sky Bet Championship matches so far.

Meanwhile the club's back up keeper, Orjan Nyland, has only played two games so far this season.

The Verdict

You can understand why Parker wants to keep his cards close to his chest but it is fair to assume that this could be an area that Bournemouth are taking a serious look at.

Travers is by far and away the undisputed number one choice for the Cherries between the sticks, but it would be beneficial for him to have some top level competition at his age.

Nyland appears unable to provide him with that, so a new man could well be in the frame when January rolls around.

Whether its a loanee or a free agent, some added quality in the goal could really help Travers to kick on even more.
