Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan has described the potential appointment of Thierry Henry as "huge".

Hogan is currently on international duty with Republic of Ireland and admitted it would be a huge appointment for the striker on a personal level.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of their clash against Denmark, Hogan stated, "They're huge names in football but at the minute there's no one there so the lads back home, we've just got to crack on until someone gets appointed, but to be linked with those sort of people, for me personally, is huge."

"To maybe have the chance to work with Thierry Henry, who is probably the greatest Premier League striker, and obviously JT played with us last year - probably the best Premier League defender."

The 26-year-old admitted that he wasn't surprised to hear high-profile names being linked to the managerial vacancy at Villa Park, given the stature of the Championship club.

"Nothing's been appointed or confirmed yet but a club like Aston Villa, the size of it, these names are going to be linked to us.

Hogan will be looking for an upturn in recent performances after his big-money move from Brentford in January 2017.

The Irish international has only netted ten times in 54 appearances for the club and is yet to feature for Aston Villa since their play-off final defeat to Fulham.

Verdict:

When Hogan signed for Aston Villa, he was in excellent form having scored 21 goals in 36 games for Brentford before his move to Villa Park.

He has struggled for goals since his move and will hope that he can prove himself to the new manager at Aston Villa, but faces a tough task to replace Jonathan Kodjia from the starting XI, who has already scored four times this season and has been the main source of goals for Villa this season.

With no appearances this season, Hogan will consider this as a fresh start and will look to kick on and improve his goalscoring record for Aston Villa.
