Derby County goalkeeper Scott Carson has admitted that his side need to be more like Leeds United after the Whites convincingly beat Frank Lampard’s side on Friday evening.

Leeds were rampant at Elland Road from start to finish, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side unlucky not to come away with a more convincing scoreline than 2-0.

Goals from Kemar Roofe and Jack Harrison were enough to secure the victory, with Derby not getting a sniff against the division’s standout side.

Discussing Leeds with the Derby Telegraph, Carson admitted that he and his own teammates must aspire to get to their level.

“We need to hold our hands up and work out how we can improve,” the 33-year-old explained.

"Leeds are a good side and are difficult to play against.

"They are a team that we need to aspire to be like if we want to achieve what we want to achieve."

Despite another comprehensive Leeds victory, the match’s main talking point has been ‘spygate’, with Bielsa sending a spy to watch Derby train 24 hours before the clash.

It’s a topic that’s caused plenty of controversy, with the EFL announcing today that they have written to Leeds for their observations on the incident.

The Verdict

Derby might be in promotion contention along with Leeds, but Carson is right, the two clubs are worlds apart at this stage.

It’s been twice now that Leeds have beaten Derby convincingly, with the Rams failing to live with the intensity of Bielsa’s side.

‘Spygate’ has overshadowed the win, but it seems Carson is using it as no excuse.
