Celtic legend and Fleetwood Town boss Scott Brown has jokingly offered James Forrest and Callum McGregor the chance to join the club on loan.

In a recent interview, Brown was asked by BBC Sport if there were any of his former teammates he'd like to bring to Fleetwood, to which he jokingly replied: "For standards and tempo in training, I would say Callum McGregor."

"I would take him or Jamesy [Forrest], all day long.

"If any of them want to come then it's an option, lads; A year's loan.

"But I tried to drive everything as much as I could when I knew I was coming to the end, but I was glad when I was leaving they offered Cal  [McGregor] the captaincy because he drives training.

"He drives standards about the place and wants to be the best he possibly can be.

"Did I play with better players? Possibly. I played with Virgil [van Dijk] and [Victor] Wanyama and stuff, but controlling a dressing room is hard.

"Here [at Fleetwood] we have Josh Vela and these players are important to have because they can drive players on."

Scott Brown took over as Fleetwood boss in the summer and has had a steady start to life as a manager so far this season.

The club finished 20th in League One last season, and after Bolton Wanderers' late winner against them on Saturday, Brown's side sit 17th in the third tier at present.

Fleetwood Town suffered a very late defeat to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.

An FA Cup second round tie away at Ebbsfleet awaits the club next weekend, before getting back to League One action on December 2nd with a tough away trip to Ipswich.

The Verdict

Fleetwood Town would be so lucky!

I do find Scott Brown's response here an interesting one though.

It was clearly a light-hearted question and whilst he did reply with a jokey answer offering the duo a loan deal, he also offered excellent reasoning for selecting the players he did and took real time to consider his response.

Then, he discussed his own player, Josh Vela, and how he has that sort of impact for him at Fleetwood.

All in all, though, I thought it was a well thought out response, and offered a small glimpse into Brown and the sort of characters that he likes in his dressing room.
