It’s been an action-packed League Two season so far and February was no different.

With the focus back on the football after the business of the January transfer window, the action on the pitch certainly lived up to the billing.

Six players stood out in the English fourth tier and have been nominated for the FLW Fans’ League Two Player of the Month award, we’ve outlined why each has got the nod.

Defenders

Nominees: Ricardo Santos, Baily Cargill

Bolton went unbeaten in February, taking 16 points from a possible 18 as they shot up the League Two table and into the play-off picture, and Ricardo Santos’ dominant performances at centre-back were a key factor.

The 25-year-old joined on a free transfer from non-league Barnet in the summer and has proven a fantastic bit of business, with last month seeing him take his performances to a new level as he helped the side keep four clean sheets and made a mammoth 43 clearances.

Forest Green Rovers kept their automatic promotion push on track by winning four from five last month and January signing Baily Cargill was ever-present at the heart of their defence throughout.

The 25-year-old central defender was a force at both ends of the field, making 10 tackles and bagging two goals as well.

Midfielders

Nominees: Callum Cooke, Timothee Dieng, John O’Sullivan

Callum Cooke’s role in Bradford City’s renaissance should not be understated. The Bantams lost just once last month, putting together a four-game winning run to end February with Cooke pulling the strings from attacking midfield.

So much of their forward play goes through the 24-year-old, who bagged a goal and two assists himself.

Relegation-threatened Southend United put together an impressive run in February, boosting their chances of survival massively, and Timothee Dieng was a vital performer in defensive midfield.

The 28-year-old has impressed in a variety of roles this term but he was fantastic in the centre of the park and even contributed in the final third – finding the net once.

John O’Sullivan was in sparkling form in February as Morecambe kept pace in the play-off race.

If the Shrimps are to secure promotion this term, their Irish winger is likely to play a starring role as he did last month – proving a constant threat while scoring once and adding two assists.

Forwards

Nominee: James Vaughan

The experience EFL marksman continued to impress for Tranmere Rovers last month, spearheading their promotion push.

James Vaughan showed his qualities as not just a goalscorer but a creator too, finding the net four times and adding three assists.
