Adama Traore has an £18million release clause in his contract, but Wolverhampton Wanderers will not go above £12million, according to the Express & Star.

The newspaper is reporting that the newly promoted side do not think the fee for release reflects Traore’s value and have seen a bid rejected for the 22-year-old.

Wolves after looking to add to their squad ahead of a Premier League return after winning the Championship title at a canter last season.

And the former Barcelona man is someone who interests Wolves boss, Nuno Santo, a lot.

With the money the Black Country side have after winning promotion to the top flight, they could pay the release fee should they chose.

But while the bid is below the minimum price, then Middlesbrough are under no pressure to sell.

Traore scored six goals and registered 11 assists in 46 games for Boro last year as they finished in the play-offs.

The 22-year-old’s pace, power and strength won has won him many admirers in the division last year.

Is it fair to say Wolves believe Traore is not worth the £18million Middlesbrough need to activate the release clause?

We discuss…

Sam Rourke

Santo should do everything to sign him.

On his day, Traore is terrifyingly good and would scare any defence in world football.

Wolves should be pushing the boat out to sign him, as he is a top-class winger that could excel at Molineux.

Jay Williams

Look at it this way; if Traore hits the heights expected of him, he is either going to be worth Middlesbrough's £18m asking price or his value will be doubled by this time next summer.

The young Spaniard has so much attacking talent, flair, skill, pace and strength, making him the full package.

And he is starting to iron out the inconsistencies in his game, add end product and becoming more of a team player, which means he is definitely worth more than £12m.

Louie Chandler

Wolves are entitled to bid what they want for players, but I do not think it is unreasonable for Boro to hold out for the winger's release clause to be met.

£12million would be a great deal for someone who was so exciting in the Championship last season and who will only improve this campaign.

Gary Hutchinson

Not at all.

If an unproven player such as Joao Carvalho is valued at £13.2m, Traore is worth plenty more.

I've seen fees of £20 mentioned for Ben Gibson, a centre-half who won't impact games half as much as Traore.

Boro need to dismiss that without a second glance.
