Carlo Osti, the director of Italian Serie A side Sampdoria has confirmed to Italian press that Swiss defender Gaetano Berardi will join Leeds United this summer, so says Sport Witness.
Leeds have been linked with the right back continuously throughout the window and should a move go through, Berardi would become the third Italian based signing to join the West Yorkshire club following the signings of Tommaso Bianchi and Marco Silvestri.
When questioned over summer departures from i Blucherchiati, Osti stated that the Berardi deal is on the “homestretch”, with a deal already finalised between the two clubs. The director also confirmed that striker Stefano Beltrame is likely to join Modena.
After representing Switzerland at youth level, Berardi has only made one first team international appearance but is fairly experienced having made over a hundred appearances for Brescia, before his move to Genoa based Sampdoria in 2012.
The 25-year-old will bolster a weak Leeds defence, who earlier this week pulled out of a deal to sign Jonathan Rossini due to concerns over his fitness.
