Nottingham Forest forward Sammy Ameobi has promised to excite fans of the club, after signing a one-year deal at the City Ground

Ameobi joined the Reds after leaving Bolton Wanderers at the end of last season.

The 27-year-old is a versatile forward who can play all across the front line and scored 12 goals and created seven in 91 appearances for the Trotters during his two-year spell in the North West.

A product of the Newcastle United academy, Ameobi made 70 appearances for the Magpies and spent a year on loan at Cardiff City before joining Bolton in July 2017.

Speaking to @NFFC, Ameobi said he was "very happy" to be joining Forest.

He added: "Obviously, I know the history of this club, it's a great club and I'm really happy to be part of it going forward."

The Englishman listed "the quality of the players" and the City Ground as two huge factors of making the decision to "become part of such a good club".

He continued: "I'm hoping to excite people. I'm someone who likes to create a lot of things, score goals and create assists, and hopefully, I can do that this season."

The Verdict

Ameobi says he is joining the club to try and create excitement, which should be music to the ears of Forest fans. Last season had its ups and down at the City Ground, and ahead of a year when the target is likely the play-offs added excitement is a bonus.

This looks like a solid bit of business – Ameobi is a talented forward with experience at this level and could prove a useful asset for Martin O'Neill this season.

He has been inconsistent in the past but O'Neill may fancy he can be the coach to coax the best out of the 27-year-old and a one-year deal seems like a great bit of motivation to help Ameobi to prove his worth.

Six players have departed the club so far this summer and Forest fans will be glad to finally see some reinforces arrive, ahead of a what could be a promising season for the club.
