Sam Surridge has paid tribute to Swansea City after being recalled from his loan spell at the club by parent club Bournemouth as a result of their striker shortage.

The attacker joined the South Wales outfit on an initial season-long loan deal over the summer, but he is now set to return to Bournemouth prematurely in order to play a role in the club's Premier League survival effort.

This comes despite Surridge breaking into the Swansea starting line-up of late, with the 21-year-old having registered 23 appearances for the Liberty Stadium outfit, while he netted seven goals during this time.

The England U21 international has now been recalled by the Cherries following injuries to strikers such as Josh King and Callum Wilson, while Eddie Howe's side will need all hands on deck in order to dodge relegation this term.

Surridge has now taken to Twitter to issue his reaction to the news, with the forward thanking Swansea for the role they played in his development during the first half of the season, while he singled out Steve Cooper for his support.

The Verdict

This news comes as something of a surprise given that Surridge was starting to make strong progress at Swansea, but it appears as though Howe as deemed this as a good reason to re-involve him with the Cherries.

Surridge has now proven his ability to perform at a high level given his recent game time in attack, and Bournemouth will now be hoping the 21-year-old can make a significant contribution during the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, Swansea must make every effort to sign another forward in the January transfer window, as they are now looking desperately short of attacking options following this decision.
