West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has hailed manager Slaven Bilic, saying he can tell he's 'managed at the top level'.

The ex-Manchester United man has been a mainstay in Bilic's West Brom side this season, playing every one of their Championship games so far.

Before the football was postponed, West Brom lost their top-spot to Leeds United, who now sit a point above the Baggies in 2nd. The pair have been fighting it out all season and look set to clinch promotion as and when the season resumes.

Speaking to www.wba.co.uk, Johnstone gave the lowdown on Bilic, and why he's proving to be a good fit for West Brom:

"It’s great playing under Slav. He’s so calm and gives us all confidence to go out and play to get the job done.

"Even when we had our tough spells he says what’s needed to be said and then it’s onto to the next training session, the next game and you can tell he’s managed at the top level."

Bilic made his name as a manager with Croatia, managing them through both the Euro 2008 and 2012 tournaments, before spells with Lokomotiv Moscow and Besiktas landed him at West Ham.

Now with the Baggies, Bilic is on the cusp of one his finest achievements in football, and he's Johnstone to thank for a solid season between the sticks.

The verdict

Plenty have flourished under Bilic this season. Johnstone's role in the side can go unnoticed with all the outfield talent that West Brom have, but he's so far played as crucial a role as anyone in the side.
