After capitulating against Lancashire rivals Preston North End on Saturday, Blackburn Rovers are now on a run of six games without a win, their worst run since March.

Their recent form has seen them slide from knocking on the play-off door to 17th in the Championship table and the pressure is beginning to mount on boss Tony Mowbray.

The winless run has seen Rovers pick up just two points from a possible 18 and one Rovers player has issued a strong rallying call to his teammates.

Sam Gallagher joined Blackburn over the summer on a four-year deal from Southampton, and is no stranger to Ewood Park having spent the 2016-2017 season there on loan.

Gallagher, who netted his first goal of his second spell for Rovers on Saturday, has said the squad need to focus on putting things right before the international break in two games time.

Speaking of recent performances, Gallagher told the Lancashire Telegraph: "We have to take responsibility. You look at the games this season, we’ve had spells in every game where we’ve looked good, we’re not doing ourselves justice in terms of where we are at this moment."

Rovers have already let slip the lead four times in matches they've failed to win this season and have suffered frustrating home defeats to Charlton and Luton Town.

Despite the results, Gallagher believes the squad is nearly there in terms of picking up points: "We’re not far off it, in my opinion, but at the same time, the results just haven’t come, you have to look at the games ahead and look to pick up points."

After surrendering a two goal lead at Preston, Gallagher did hold back on the sternness of his words of the team's situation.

Gallagher suggested it could be quite simple what Blackburn need to do to improve: "We need to work hard for ourselves, each other and the manager. That’s what we have to do."

The Verdict

Rovers fans will be desperate for their side's luck to change with two stern tests coming up for their side before the international break.

Blackburn host in-form Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, before travelling to Leeds United the following week.

It will be refreshing to hear a player talk so frank about his side's form where players could easily shy away from blame and all at the club will be hoping they can turn that desire and hard work into points from the next two games.

Rovers players have addressed their form in recent weeks, which will at least provide some patience with their supporters.

If this run is to continue however, fans will be looking for actions and points rather than just words.
