Ipswich Town are expecting to have a very busy summer as Paul Cook looks to build a squad that is capable of winning promotion to the Championship.

A few new signings have already arrived, and one priority for the boss is to find a new striker. Therefore, fans may have been encouraged by recent links from the Sun claiming that Sam Cosgrove is a target.

Birmingham signed the big man from Aberdeen in January for around £2m, although he didn't make the impact they would've hoped last season, featuring in just 12 games, many from the bench, and failing to score a goal.

Therefore, it has been suggested that a loan move could be on the cards and here we assess the potential deal...

What do we know so far?

As mentioned, we know that Cosgrove has had a tough time at Blues, even though it's still too soon to judge him really.

But, it appears that Lee Bowyer has made his mind up, and the fact that he didn't use Cosgrove that often shows that he isn't a massive fan of the 24-year-old just yet.

So, the report claims that he could be available on loan and we know that Ipswich are desperately short of attacking options. The lack of goals under Cook was embarrassing towards the end of the previous campaign, so they would love to add Cosgrove.

Is it likely to happen?

Following on from that, you'd have to say that a move could definitely happen, especially if it's on loan.

Blues won't want to cash in on Cosgrove just yet, as they'll struggle to get their money back. But, if he stays, he's unlikely to jump ahead of Lukas Jutkiewicz in the pecking order.

That makes a loan seem an attractive option from their perspective as it would allow Cosgrove to flourish ahead of returning in the future.

From Ipswich's view, as touched upon, they need at least two strikers in the summer and the Blues striker would be a real coup, so it's a no-brainer to do the deal if it's possible.
