Former England boss Sam Allardyce has revealed that he has no interest in becoming the next Stoke City manager.

A 2-0 defeat at home to West Brom last night has left the Potters in a pretty dire situation. They are bottom of the Championship and six points from safety ahead of a crucial game against fellow strugglers Barnsley this weekend.

Therefore, many feel appointing someone with experience is necessary and Allardyce has proven himself to be capable of keeping teams up in the past.

And, he spoke about Stoke's problems when on TalkSPORT this morning, outlining the challenges that face the side.

"There’s a lot of early assessment and recommendations that you, as the manager, put to the board on how you’re going to change it. And the board needs to listen to the man they’ve just employed on how to do those recommendations, to save Stoke in the Championship."

When asked if he would be interested, he then revealed he wouldn't want the role.

"No...I’m coming down here and enjoying myself too much with you."

The Staffordshire outfit will be looking for just their third league win of the season when they go to Oakwell on Saturday.

The verdict

This probably won't be a surprise as it was hard to see Allardyce dropping down to the Championship given he has proven himself in the top-flight over the years.

But, it will still be a little blow for Stoke as he would have been an ideal candidate for them in this situation.

Make no mistake, they are in a real fight for survival and they need someone who can quickly sort this mess out to ensure they don't drop to League One which would be catastrophic for the club.
