Salford are looking to do some more business this summer, with Bristol World reporting that the club are plotting a loan move for Ryley Towler from Bristol City.

The club have been desperate to try and seal a promotion from League Two but failed again to do so last term, managing only a top half finish. In the end, the side finished in tenth, seven points away from the play-off places.

Now, they will need to have a summer of positive transfer business in order to help them kick on and get to the next level and one name that has cropped up as a target is Towler.

The 21-year-old has never played in the fourth tier of English football but does have a smattering of experience in the Championship. He's made four appearances for his parent club Bristol City in that division in the past so that could certainly help him lower down the pyramid.

He's also had a spell with Grimsby in the National League which came last season. With 13 appearances for the club, it was his biggest haul of showings yet over the course of his career but he couldn't quite help the side to promotion.

Now, back with the Robins, he could be about to seal another loan deal away from Ashton Gate this summer.

City have used him in the past and could use him in rotation again but Salford are keen to bring him in and give him much more frequentl gametime than the Robins would be able to offer him. Whilst City might want to keep hold of him - and Bristol World claim that they will for now - the lure of more action could eventually lead to a temporary switch.

The Verdict

Ryley Towler could be a solid addition to Salford's squad for the new campaign, even if he doesn't have a lot of League Two experience to his name yet.

He's been entrusted with gametime for Bristol City in the past and that shows that he is highly regarded by the Robins despite his age. Still, he might not be able to break into their first-team on a regular basis yet and rather than have to settle for a few minutes here and there, he could be best served heading out on loan again.

He managed a handful of showings in the National League last season thanks to his loan with Grimsby and that would have helped him with his development enormously. The next logical step is to try himself out a division higher and Salford are giving him the chance to do so.

It could be a win-win situation for both parties here - so a deal should be seeked out when City feel they are in a good position to do so.
