Salford City defender Dan Jones has joined National League side Barrow, on loan until the end of the 2019/20 season.

The 24-year-old joined Salford from Barrow in the summer but has struggled to make an impact at the Peninsula Stadium, managing just five appearances for the League Two side.

On Monday evening, Salford confirmed that Jones had returned to Barrow on loan, for the remainder of the current campaign, with his old side in prime position for promotion at the top of the National League.

Jones had turned out 74 times for Barrow before his switch to Salford and has represented Grimsby Town and Hartlepool United, as well as Salford City at League Two level.

In a short Twitter statement by Salford, the club wished the defender well on his loan move back to his former side.

Jones brings a wealth of experience back to Barrow, with 77 National League appearances and 43 League Two appearances already under his belt, as Barrow look to get over the line and into the Football League this season.

Ian Evatt's side currently sit seven points clear of second-placed Harrogate Town and have firmly established themselves as favourites for promotion to the Football League.

The Verdict

This is certainly a move that makes sense for all parties, Jones impressed in Barrow's last season but has failed to make an impact at Salford so far, and has seen his opportunities limited.

It will no doubt lift everyone at Barrow as they look to continue their push for automatic promotion to the Football League.

Jones has another year left on his Salford contract after this season, and should he impress back at Barrow it seems likely the defender will be playing League Two football, regardless of Barrow's ending to this season.

This is a smart move by the Ammies to send him out on loan for the remainder of the season.
