Saido Berahino is on the verge of seeing his Stoke City career end with reports of his banishment from the first-team.

The striker was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning on suspicion of drink-driving.

Nathan Jones was said to be livid with the 25-year-old, and while the club is considering selling him in the summer, measures have been taken to ensure he is as far away from the first team as possible.

The Express and Star is now reporting that Berahino is set to train with the youth players for the rest of the season until the transfer window opens again in the summer, to offload the striker.

It has been a spectacular fall from grace since being linked with a move to Tottenham back in 2016 to the move to Stoke, and the subsequent decline in his career due to off-field issues at both his former club West Brom and now at the bet365 Stadium.

The verdict

This is the only plausible things Stoke could have done in relegating Berahino to the reserves to train for the rest of the season.

The striker has had several chances in his career and his off-field antics have put a ceiling on his potential to play at the highest level.

Stoke will want rid of the player but must do so accordingly and in the proper manner.

But I think this is the only scenario open to Jones and the club right now in making him train with the youngsters.
