It's safe to say that Saido Berahino had plenty of ups and downs with West Brom over the years, before eventually signing for Stoke City in the summer of 2017.

The forward scored 36 goals in 121 appearances in total for the Baggies, and even caught the eye of Tottenham Hotspur in August 2015, with West Brom turning down a bid and rejected Berahino's transfer request.

Berahino is now playing his football with Belgian side Zulte Waregem, where he has shown glimpses of the type of performances that saw him impress in English football.

The 26-year-old has eight goals to his name in 22 appearances for the Belgian side, who sit ninth in the top-flight this season.

Speaking in a recent interview with the Counter Attack Podcast, Berahino stated that he struggled with a lack of guidance in the right direction earlier in his career.

"I think if I had somebody around me that told me: 'Look, Saido, you're not going to move, forget about it - you've already done it, you've already proven that you can attract a big club, now let's go and attract two or three big clubs'.

"I never had that type of guidance. I just thought 'wow, my life is ended', really."

The forward went on to reveal that he loved his time with West Brom, and would welcome the opportunity to play for the Baggies again in the future.

"[I thought] 'I want to play Champions League, I want to'… no disrespect to West Brom. I loved my time at West Brom. Even if West Brom came back for me, I would jump back as soon as I can."

"I love West Brom. I still support them, I still follow their games, my friend plays for them. If they came back for me, 100 per cent I would go back. 100 per cent."

The Verdict:

I'm not sure that many West Brom supporters would have Berahino back at the club.

The fans are likely to remember the bad moments in his time with the Baggies, but it is good to see him trying to get his career back on track.

Slaven Bilic's side look as though they're destined to win promotion back into the Premier League this season, so I would be very surprised if they were to even consider making a move for the Burundi international.
