Stoke City are exploring the possibility of sacking Saido Berahino after the striker was arrested for drink-driving earlier this week.

That’s the latest according to the Telegraph, who report that Stoke boss Nathan Jones has already exiled Berahino from the first-team, with the club now exploring their options as they consider sacking the 25-year-old.

Berahino’s latest controversial moment came in the early hours of Monday morning, when he was taken into custody and charged with drink-driving.

The Potters then moved to suspend Berahino, and although he’s now returned to training, the Telegraph state that Stoke are considering their next move.

Whilst sacking Berahino would be an extreme stance, the report refuses to rule out the possibility of that happening after this latest incident.

The player will also be fined two weeks of his £80k-a-week wage, with Jones reportedly fuming with his striker, who had been promised a clean slate following the manager’s arrival at the bet365 Stadium.

So far this season Berahino has made 26 appearances across all competitions, scoring five goals for the Potters.

He’s featured just twice under Jones, though, and was absent from the matchday squad against Ipswich Town last weekend.

The Verdict

Sacking Berahino would be extreme, but many would feel it was deserved as the player is continuing to let Stoke down in remarkable fashion.

A player scoring 20+ goals a season would struggle to be backed in these circumstances, let alone one that’s flopped so badly following a high-profile move.

On way or another, it is hard to see a route back for Berahino at the bet365.
