Sabri Lamouchi has reacted to the departure of Jack Robinson after the defender left Nottingham Forest to join Sheffield United on Tuesday afternoon.

The 26-year-old made 19 appearances in all competitions for Forest under Sabri Lamouchi this season, battling it out with Yuri Ribeiro and Chema for a place in the side.

But with his contract at the City Ground set to run out in the summer, the left-back has now completed a move away from Forest and signed for the Blades, for a fee of around £1m.

Robinson was a solid player under Aitor Karanka following his arrival from QPR last season, but somewhat failed to replicate that form under Lamouchi this time around.

With Ribeiro moving ahead of Robinson in the pecking order in recent weeks, the latter will now be hoping to play regularly for Chris Wilder's side, who sit seventh in the Premier League.

Via Nottinghamshire Live, Lamouchi has reacted to the departure of Robinson, insisting that the club tried to keep hold of the defender before failing to do so.

He said: "It was a surprise for everybody, also for me. We tried to keep him. We tried to get him to sign a new contract, but when Sheffield started to talk to him it was difficult, with them being in the Premier League.

"If we didn’t have any other options, I would have said, ‘no’, but we have some options - Yuri and Chema. I can understand Jack (wanting to go).

"He is a very good professional and I just want to wish him all the best for his new career in Sheffield."

Forest can go third in the Championship and two points off the automatic promotion places tonight, if the Reds pick up all three points against Reading at the City Ground.

The Verdict

I think it's an excellent piece of business for Forest to get around £1m, for a player who was running out of months on his contract and didn't really make an impact under Lamouchi.

Robinson is a solid Championship left-back who always gives his all and wears his heart on his sleeve, but the role of the full-back has changed, especially in Lamouchi's system.

Matty Cash and Yuri Ribeiro are effectively used as wingers and are told to overlap and join in with attacks, whereas Robinson struggles to get forward and add any real end product to his game.

I don't think Forest need to bring in another left-back before the window slams shut, as they more than enough options for cover at the moment.
